in this powerful ted talk,Jacqueline Novogratz tells a moving story of an encounter in a Nairobi slum with Jane, a former prostitute, whose dreams of escaping poverty, of becoming a doctor and of getting married were fulfilled in an unexpected way. right off the bat, novogratz describes to use what poverty really means and in her way its"barley managing on your own." she jumps right into her story rather than trying to entertain and grab the audienences attention which i personally loved. shes builiding a more realistic and gritty environment for the audience to witness such as what she witnessed in kenya. she does however share an encounter with the kids i kenya and her talking about "obama being their brother" which as a result grabs the audiences giggles and laughs to novogratz, knowing that she has the audience intriuged. she then talks about jane, a prostitute who dreams of becoming a doctor and gettig married one day. at the end, jane does become a doctor throught a non-profit organization which has some audience members in awe of what jane did. novogratz mainly uses ethos to grab the emotions and sends them to the audience, while also using logos to educate the audience about the poverty percentage between the united states, and africa. this was a relatively short talk however, it is one that has lots of emotion and some laughs throughout. novogratz taught me a very important lesson with her talk whcih was, no matter what obstacle is in your way just keep trying and you WILL OVERCOME it. this talk can be related to generally all the reading we have done in class. wheter it'll be from the great gatsby to el derado, or the one with terrance king working 2 jobs on minimum wage by abc news. they all connect to one very VALUABLE lesson that this talk represents which is, hope. hope is the leading drtive that billions of people around the world use to ACHIEVE their dream. like gatsby, working hard to become wealthy just to get to daisy. or terrance king, who continually worked the same job for 12 years. terrance later shared his story to abc news, and later went to the white house to speak about minimum wage jobs. the same emotion that our stories that we read in class is the same emotion that drived jane into becoming a doctor and starting a family of her own. overall, this talk is by far one of the best talks that i have ever seen in my life.
